About me:
Recognised in the UK transport planning industry and increasingly across the world, for work in sustainable transport planning. Career has progressed steadily as environmental approaches to transport have found their way into mainstream policy and local implementation.
Developed a wealth of knowledge leading high-profile transport planning projects establishing new visions underpinned by bespoke integrated transport strategies for a wide range of applications, from development sites to towns and cities. Passionate about his work and find great reward from inspiring others to think more innovatively about transport.
Enjoys translating transport planning concepts into their implications and requirements for strategic planning and urban design. Has played a key role providing policy guidance to inform national and international governments on how to embed TDM into transport planning in practice.
Considerable experience in the research and development of contemporary transport strategies and the management of inter-disciplinary teams necessary to deliver such strategies efficiently. Approach realises the collective benefits of public transport, cycling and walking, combined with demand management techniques. Has had strategies scrutinised at Planning Inquiry which gave useful expert witness experience, as well as providing confidence in the technical robustness of the work.
Worked on a broad range of leading European Commission (EU) and Department for Transport (DfT) research projects, into integrated sustainable transport. Doctorate used cutting-edge research to better understand behavioural barriers to mode-shift, including development of applied psycho-socio methodologies.
Regularly invited to provide expert advice to government and I have represented the UK at a number of international sustainable transport think-tanks including the OECD, across Europe the US and Canada. During career has prepared and presented a substantial number of papers in leading journals and at international conferences and has helped to develop the next generation of transport planners by lecturing on degree courses and as a PhD supervisor.
