In 1998, within the framework of 'In Town Without My Car!' Day organised by the municaplity of Nimes, the Direction départementale de l'équipement (DDE) of Gard organised it's own day for employees to travel to work by other means of transport than their car. This event saw 40% of employees give up their cars for the day, and was repeated the following year by all departments within the administration. This is a French language example.
