This document is Cambridge City Council's version of guidance based on input from a number of English local authorities. It starts with the premise that cycle parking 'must be customer facing'. It also, for the first time so far as we are aware tries to show the mount of room needed to access cycle parking.

I have to say that I find the recommendation of the Bicycle Victoria guide to use a rack that hangs a bike up above the bonnet of a car to be ridiculous. This puts it literally and metaphorically in the place of a toy that the car has to be moved to get to so that it can be taken out and played with. This is not the way to park a mode of transport that has to be ready for instant use if it is to be taken seriously.
