In The Netherlands the cooperation between the Dutch National Railways NS and car sharing project Greenwheels is taken to a higher level. In the vicinity of 85 railway stations and many hundreds of other places it’s now possible for holders of the NS Business Card to use a car provided by car sharing project Greenwheels.
Gijs van Lookeren, campaign director of Greenwheels: “ For us this cooperation process is just a first step in a further integration with the total transport chain. We expect to double our growth in business users.” The business user can reserve a car up to one minute before the time of departure en immediately drive off. After having reserved a car via the internet, the car can be opened with the NS Business Card. The billing goes automatically via a monthly account.
Also in Belgium local stakeholders are ambitious. Geert Gisquière of Cambio (Belgian car sharing company): “We’re currently still in a first phase in which efforts are done to expand the amount of car sharing stations in the vicinity of railway stations. For that we work together with NMBS Holding, the owner of the railway stations in Belgium. Of course, also in Belgium we think of an intensified cooperation which enables travellers of combining their seasonal train card with car sharing. In order to achieve this, the first phase has to be taken to a higher level and therefore further cooperation with other entities of the Belgian Railways Group is needed. We have quite high ambitions, but there’s still lack of a concrete timeline.”
