An agreement has been signed by The Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, Romania and RATB (Local Transport Bucharest Operator) to launch nine bus routes this month to promote touristic destinations located within 50 km of Bucharest.

The initiative was developed over a year ago by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism but a transport operator had not been identified until now. The new agreement with RATB allows the Ministry to promote beautiful but forgotten monasteries located in and around Bucharest and the national natural park Comana - the second biodiversity area in Romania after the Danube Delta.

The routes will initially run only on weekends, but if the project is successful in attracting passengers to visit significant ecumenical sites, the Ministry and RATB will extend the service to weekdays, whilst increasing the number of buses and destinations. The initiative is welcome, as many of these destinations have been neglected due to the difficulty of access by car.
