In June 2010 the Austrian city of Weiz began a joint project with car dealerships to provide Pedelecs to customers waiting for their cars to be repaired. Most car dealships in Weiz have a broad customer base, that sees a large number of clients visiting the area from both within and out with the city boundaries to have maintenance and repair work done on their cars. Whilst waiting for this work to be done, customers typically take taxis to/from the city centre, or wait at the car dealership. In attempt to dissuade drivers from making these trips by taxi, dealerships are now offering customers a free loan of a Pedelec for the period whilst the car is being prepared. Information folders and promotional offers for businesses in the inner centre of Weiz are also offered. Information booklets containing promotional offers for businesses in the inner centre of Weiz are also offered to customers

It is hoped the scheme will help to reduce inner-city traffic congestion, as well as attracting new customers to city-centre businesses and shops.

During the first phase of implementation 7 companies agreed to take part in the project.
