The city of Burgos has won the 2011 Sustainable City Award of Spain in the category of "mobility and climate change".

In 2002, the Environmental Forum Foundation (Fundació Fòrum Ambiental), a non-profit entity, created the Sustainable City Award to commend sustainable development in Spanish cities. The award is given annually to cities of more than 5,000 inhabitants which have completed successful actions for sustainability over 2 years and which show that there is a political will towards sustainable development.

The city of Burgos has won the latest award for being the best Spanish city in the category of “mobility and climate change”. The Environmental Forum Foundation has recognised several activities undertaken in Burgos: a reduction in the use of the private car and an increase in sustainable transport means, a high degree of accessibility in citizens’ daily trips, a reduction in car traffic and emissions in the city centre, major traffic control, the provision of information to drivers, and awareness raising among citizens.
